Thin, Trim, and Gluten-Free
Thin ?n Trim has always been putting health first when it comes to our products. That?s basically why this brand even exists. We wanted to provide everyone with healthy food options, which include our low fat, low sodium deli and lunch meats, chicken sausages, and chicken hot dog.
What many may not have noticed is that all of our Thin ?n Trim products are also gluten-free. We have never explicitly explained or noted this, other than the presence of our gluten-free icons on our packages and our website.
So what significance does gluten-free mean for our products? To answer this, we have to look at what gluten-free means for one?s health.
Recent studies have shown that 1 in 133 Americans have celiac disease, a digestive condition that is triggered by the consumption of the protein gluten, primarily found in bread, pasta, cookies, and many other foods containing wheat, barley or rye. People with celiac disease who eat foods containing gluten experience an immune reaction in their small intestines, causing damage and an inability to absorb certain nutrients. If they continue to consume gluten, then they put themselves at a greater risk of gastrointestinal cancer than the normal population. The only medically acecepted treatment for those with celiac disease is a gluten-free diet, a diet that excludes foods that contain gluten.
Aside from those with celiac disease, there are also portions of the population with some other sensitivity to gluten, such as Dermatitis herpetiformis, a skin disease that stems from gluten intolerance. In which case, following a gluten-free diet also improves their health, while consuming gluten worsens it.
Thus, for these people, finding and consuming foods free of gluten are their best methods of preventing any future health complications.
With Thin ?n Trim already carrying deli and lunch meats, chicken sausages, and hot dogs that are both low in fat and low in sodium, we have opted to ensure that our products are also gluten-free. At first thought, you may question why any meats would have to worry about gluten. Well with processed foods, you have to consider any spices or other ingredients that are mixed in to give the final product. But it is okay, our QC department has already taken care of that, because we at Thin ?n Trim are always looking out for you and your health.
