What's the most important part of a healthy diet?

The most important part of a healthy diet is eating clean foods. If you eat junk, you will feel like junk. What eating clean means is simply eating natural foods like fruits, vegetables, lean meats, or brown rice. Clean foods fuel your body for optimum energy and leave you feeling healthier all together.

What are the best things to eat before and a after a workout?

My favorite snack to eat before a workout is a piece of fruit like a banana or apple or a slice of Ezekial bread with a little bit strawberry jam (no sugar added). The easy to digest carbs give me an instant energy burst. As for after a workout, I love to eat roll-ups of deli style turkey with low fat swiss cheese or a fruit smoothie with just a scoop of whey isolate protein powder, mango pieces, ice and water.

Do you change your diet for the summer?

I tend to eat a little unhealthier on the weekends with all the BBQ's and beach parties, so I try to eat healthier during the week to allow myself a little room for indulging. I limit dessert and alcohol to the weekend only. I also eat less salad, and more grilled veggies!

Do you have a favorite recipe from Thin 'n Trim

Sun-Dried Tomato and Turkey on Rye. During the summer, packing a lunch to the beach is a must! I love this recipe because it really spices up a basic turkey sandwich. I'm also a sun dried tomato fanatic. Packing your own lunch will not only save you money but also up to 500 calories. Many delis put on way too much meat and mayo. The bread is always a toss-up too for calories and nutritional content.

Do you have any fun summer exercise suggestions?

Get outside and try something new. My best friend recently took up tennis, and it's a great way to have fun while exercising. Each time one of us double faults, we have to get down and do 5 push&mdsh ups. Running groups are also becoming very popular. They are free to join, require no commitment but provide plenty of motivation and accountability once you get there!

How can you mix exercise with a day at the beach?

Take walks down the beach and explore. Grab a kayak if possible, or try out the newest craze stand up paddle surfing where you stand on a surf board (in calm or not so calm water) and use a paddle to propel yourself forward. It's a killer ab workout. Swimming, treading water even, is amazing at burning calories. Lastly while tanning your back, why not get into plank position for just a minute, or do 10 push-ups?

How often do you change your workout music?

I change my workout music probably once every two months. I get bored quick. At the gym, I'll listen to Pandora on my iPod touch, but when I'm outdoors, I'll mix it up between a set playlist, iTunes Genius playlist or a free runners podcast.
